As of 1 July 2021 Arthur Goethals will act as strategic advisor to the ULEB Board of Directors. The appointment will run until the end of President Tomas Van Den Spiegel’s term in October 2024.

Arthur Goethals has a long track record at various levels within European basketball.

His appointment within ULEB coincides with the end of his term as the Belgian Pro Basketball League’s President, a position he held as of September 2015 and where he was a driving force behind the transition towards the BeNeLeague, the newly founded Belgian-Dutch cross-border competition that will start its inaugural season in September 2021.
From 2007 to 2015 he was the President of Belgian club FILOU Oostende, one of the perennial powerhouses in Belgian basketball.

Throughout his career he has held various positions within the European basketball landscape as well, acting as chairman of the Basketball Champions League Media and Marketing Committee and as a member of the Basketball Champions League Board of Directors most recently. He was also a 4-year member of the FIBA Europe Board.

His role within ULEB will mainly consist of advising the President and the Board of Directors in various areas while liaising with different stakeholders within European basketball and exploring new potential memberships and partnerships for the organization.

Tomas Van Den Spiegel, ULEB President: "ULEB as an organization is excited to be able to add Mr. Goethals as a strategic advisor to its Board of Directors. As a former captain of industry within the retail business and basketball executive both at the club, domestic league and European level, we are convinced that his experience will benefit ULEB both in the short and the long term.”
